Are you looking for a whole new experience, one which will change or enhance your life? Are you seeking to make new friends? Do you want to learn a new interest or improve on an existing one? Then why not become a member of Huyton u3a which could open up new opportunities for you. You need never be alone with your u3a. All members accept the principles of the u3a - sharing group responsibilities by helping one another; to quote one of the original founders of the u3a movement in 1982: 'those who teach shall also learn and those who learn shall also teach'.

Huyton u3a launched in 1st September 1997 and currently has a membership of 70+. There are now a number of activity groups where you can learn a new skill, enhance an existing skill, improve your fitness and wellbeing, and meet other like minded individuals. Huyton u3a hold their general meetings at The Old Schoolhouse, St. Johns Road, Huyton L36 0UX. If you are not sure if this organisation is for you why not come along to one of the general meetings. It is an excellent way of seeing if this u3a is for you by chatting to members.

The monthly Members Meeting is held at The Old Schoolhouse on the 2nd Thursday of the month, generally with an invited speaker. See the Events schedule, There are no meetings in January 2026 or August 2026.

Time: Doors open 2pm. There is a £2 entry fee. There is a voluntary £1 per ticket raffle and refreshments will be served.

Membership fees: £12.50 per annum

Membership year: January to December.

  • Additionally, members can attend workshops, study days, lectures, summer schools, conferences and more provided by the Third Age Trust.
  • Members have the opportunity to attend as many interest groups as available (and to volunteer to start a new interest group if they wish).

Generally anyone who has spare time, is retired, or who works part time and who wishes to be actively involved in sharing their skills, experience and knowledge with others like themselves; these can be life experiences, creative skills, educational or leisure activities. u3a's are run by their members for their members all of whom are volunteers.

Visitors: are welcome to come along to one General Meeting, thereafter they need to be fully paid up members to enjoy the benefits. Similarly a non member may take part in an activity group, as a taster, but must join Huyton u3a to continue to attend the activity/group.

The Committee members work hard to offer you various benefits, such as a newsletter, this website, special events and any other activity that its membership would like. Suggestions and ideas are always welcome.

The u3a was founded in 1982 as the University of the Third Age but is now simply know as the u3a.

u3as are self managed, self-funded and democratic with their own Constitutions. The u3a is a national organisation with over 1000 individual u3as throughout the UK. All u3a are supported by its representative body, The Third Age Trust.
